Upcoming Travels!

This past year has been a big transition year for me. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what I want out of my life, the things that are most important to me, and what shape the future might take. Then when I was in Boston in May, I had this, “Oh my gosh, I want to live abroad” moment. I don’t really know where it came from; long-term international travel has never been a huge priority for me, but I guess I realized that if I didn’t go now I may never have a chance. I’m applying to graduate school right now, and although I love my field and cannot wait to start school, the idea of being on this track for the next 40 years is a bit daunting. I'm trying not to over plan this year, rather just go and see what happens so here is the tentative schedule for the year:

Fall—I'll be in Nepal, primarily living in Kathmandu but traveling around the country too. I have an internship with a research and evaluation firm (http://www.ridanepal.org/).
January and the first part of February—I'll be in Winter Park catching up on the skiing that I missed out on last year because of my ACL.
Spring—Hopefully I'll be in Africa, because that sounds like fun, but this has very little shape at this point.
Summer—After Jay graduates, we're going to Europe to travel all over the place.
And then hopefully starting school Fall 2012!

I had no intention of starting a blog, but a number of friends have vocally indicated that they would like some way to keep track of me, so here you go. I leave for Kathmandu on August 29th and arrive on the 31st. I’ll do my best to write regularly, but I make no promises.
